The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, "Toller" for short, is one of the FCI approved breeds that originated in Canada.
He is the smallest and agilest retriever.
Size: Female 42-51cm and 16-20kg | Male 45-54cm and 18-23kg
Color: various shades of red, optional with white paws and white markings on the head or a white tail tip
It is a medium sized, strong and compact dog with great endurance, agility, vigilance and determination. Always ready to work.
Since the Toller was bred to retrieve water game animals one shouldn't forget that they are hunting dog. They show an enormous "will to please" towards their owner.
The training of a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever requires a great amount of loving consistency without harshness, a lot of imagination and the ability to introspect oneself.
He needs a lot of creativity in the training structure and a dog handler who enjoys training an intelligent dog. If you rush through the training exercise the dog will get
overstrained and refuse to continue. The Toller will only thrive if there is mutual respect, awareness and affection.

Despite the wide spread believe the Toller is not a "small golden". You can not be deceived by their lovely appearance. If you are interested in this breed you have to be be
aware that the Toller was bred for an active lifestyle that is packed with tasks and the can't live an fulfilled live as "just" a family dog.
